An Amusing and Refreshing Memoir!

A perfect read for a lighthearted day! The author is very witty and relatable, and I enjoyed his feelgood outlook on life's often over-dramatized dating situations. Humorous, upbeat. Not vulgar or disrespectful - a pleasurable read for 20-somethings, 80-somethings, or anything in between (or above!). This book helped me reflect on my own past relationships, see them in a lighter way, and release some of the negative feelings I had pent up regarding my exes. Much appreciated! I never would have gotten there if it weren't for Rothman's example. Would recommend for a cheery, easy read.

Wisdom Interwoven in a funny and honest book!

While happily married, this book’s catchy title caught my eye while scanning alumni blurbs in a recent University of Denver (DU) magazine. I didn’t know the author, Barry Rothman, but was curious what had compelled a lawyer to write about relationships. On a whim, I ordered it. Count me as one happy customer. My only regret is that his book wasn’t available 35 years ago when I began dating.
An easy read, I consumed it in one evening. This was due, in part, to its brevity but mostly because it’s an entertaining book. Rothman details his relationships with the opposite sex starting in grammar school. The 50-something former practicing attorney must be a charmer since he’s certainly dated a multitude of successful and fetching women from diverse backgrounds.
In summarizing each relationship, the author is brutally honest and humorous in assessing the faults of his dates—and himself. Some of the quotes he unearthed are priceless (Tony Curtis: “I could never date anyone old enough to be my wife,” or Groucho Marx’s comment about a talkative lady, “You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle”). One sense’s right away that some connections will be train wrecks. Many matches, however, are to varying degrees compatible yet Rothman never quite finds his kindred spirit.
What elevates Ginger or Mary Ann above simply a fun read, though, are Rothman’s dating suggestions. These insights, while not always groundbreaking, are valuable wisdom. He makes compelling arguments on topics that include dating within your own “social milieu,” long distance relationships, lost opportunities, holiday romances, and “Stage Door Johnnys.” Dating is challenging under the best circumstances but reading Rothman’s book will make it a more enriching, less fraught experience especially for men.
The author deserves kudos for bravely sharing his relationship history. Here’s hoping that Rothman finds his soulmate as a reward; he’s certainly deserving after some of his experiences detailed in Ginger or Mary Ann. P.S. SPOILER ALERT: Barry says always pick Mary Ann…but I knew that!

Fantastic Fun & Funny

This book is Great! It is all about choosing to see life, (regardless of the ups or downs), in a fun way. The author is hilaroius and brings the reader along for a joy ride full of laughter, that you don't want to end. You get to go along with him and relive both wonderful and awkward situations that everybody can relate to. I love this book and HIGHLY recommend it for anybody who is looking for a little departure from the mundane.

About the Author
Ian Johnston was born in Valaparaiso, Chile, and educated in Canada and England. He has a BSc from McGill in Geology and Chemistry, a BA from Bristol in English and Greek, and an MA from Toronto in English. For many years he taught as a college and university-college instructor in British Columbia teaching English, Classics and Liberal Studies. He is the author of The Ironies of War: An Introduction to Homer's Iliad. His translation of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey have recently been published in both book and audiobook form. He is now retired and living in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

On the Nature of Things by Lucretius

This is superb modern translation of this work. If you attempt to read the version which appears in the Great Book of the Western World, you will truly appreciate this translation. Lucretius was an atomist, i.,e., he theorized that all things were made from tiny particles separated by great spaces, a fact which was not proven until the 20th century some 2,000 plus years later. If you like philosophy in particular, you will love reading Lucretius. BTW "The Swerve" is the history of the discovery of Lucretius manuscript.

In this era the tendency is to believe 2100 years ago poetry and philosophy of life were crude and filled with ignorance. Wrong. The insight Lucretius brings to humanity in this poetic form is powerful and insightful as one reflects upon time and place. Lucretius not only sees with his eyes but listens with his eyes to nature, humanity, and how those forces converge upon each other. As one not educated in poetry it took time to get the rhythm of the poetry and to learn and understand language and usage. That is part of the learning processing and look across this vast vista of time to see that maybe Lucretius invented the idea for Lego's and plus more.

I appreciated the translators footnotes in the ebook format.

Brilliant and Eternally Relevant

A brilliant work - in fact a revelation - that was centuries ahead of its time! By intuitive observation of nature Lucretius was able to deduce the existence of atoms that, in varying combinations, comprise all matter. In doing so he urged his fellow man to relish the empirical nature of things rather than fearing non-existent Gods who, in the vacuum of real knowledge, dominated human emotions. As relevant today as it was in its time, with a poetic touch that keeps the reader as enchanted as well as illuminated.

Krishnendu Roy

Krishnendu Roy is an associate professor of computer science at Valdosta State University. Prior to joining VSU, Krishnendu completed his PhD. and M.S. in computer engineering at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA in 2009 and 2005, respectively. As an MIT App Inventor Master Trainer, Krishnendu taught computing using App Inventor in summer camps for middle and high school students and in CS0 courses at his university. AppInventor is a great tool to create your own application, indeed it was developed by MIT. You can create your masterpieces regardless you coding knowdledge, this book gives you a step by step guide thru a lot of good information about each important information to build an application.

You can create interface very easily and also with this book you can build android application and games. This book gives the information from scratch to publish into Android Market. I really like this book because I learnt a lot and I think that this book deserves a chance. It is a great investment.
